USDA Farm Services Agency's Bioenergy Program
The Bioenergy Program seeks to expand industrial consumption of agricultural commodities by promoting their use in production of bioenergy (ethanol and biodiesel). Section 5(e) of the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) Charter Act authorizes CCC to use its general powers to "increase domestic consumption of agricultural commodities by expanding or aiding in the expansion of domestic markets for agricultural commodities...". CCC will make cash payments to bioenergy producers compensating them for a portion of their increased commodity purchases made to expand existing production of bioenergy and to encourage the construction of new production capacity.

Great Lakes Biomass Energy Program
The Council of Great Lakes Governors has administered the Great Lakes Regional Biomass Energy Program (GLRBEP) under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) since 1983. This is one of five regional programs established by DOE and designed to encourage greater production and use of biomass for energy generation. Biomass includes wood, crop residues, municipal waste, and other organic materials and can be converted into heat, process steam, electricity, and transportation fuel. In past years, the biomass program has concentrated on promoting the combustion of wood and waste products to produce steam, heat, and electricity at commercial and industrial sites. During the last several years, the program has been focusing more attention on ethanol, a locally produced renewable fuel that can be derived from such things as corn and wood.

Northeast Regional Biomass Program
The Northeast Regional Biomass Program (NRBP) is one of five Regional Biomass Energy Programs established and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The Northeast region consists of eleven states including: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The NRBP is administered for DOE by the CONEG Policy Research Center, Inc. The program's mission is to evaluate biomass technologies and fuels and to provide objective, reliable information to consumers and policy leaders. The NRBP carries out its mission through an extensive network of local, state, and national government organizations, and partnerships with private industry. Biomass in the context of this program is defined as renewable organic materials including: forestry and agricultural crops and residues; wood and food processing wastes; and municipal solid waste (MSW).


Southeast Regional Biomass Energy Program
The Southern States Energy Board (SSEB) has been awarded a cooperative agreement to administer the Southeastern Regional Biomass Energy Program (SERBEP), funded through the Department of Energy’s Atlanta Regional Office. Through the use of small, cost-shared grants, the Program encourages economic development through public/private partnerships that demonstrate bioenergy technology applications. Over $1 million in funding will be available to southern states during 1999-2000.

National Corn Growers Association
NCGA is a national organization founded in 1957 and represents more than 31,000 dues-paying corn growers from 48 states. NCGA also represents the interests of more than 300,000 farmers who contribute to corn checkoff programs in 19 states. NCGA is a federation of state organizations, corn boards, councils and commissions, which develops and implements polices and programs on a state and national level to help protect and advance the corn producer's interests.


Natural Hemphasis
Natural Hemphasis is a research and consulting company with a primary focus on the re-emerging hemp industry in Canada. Office of Biorenewables Programs - Iowa State University
The Office of Biorenewables Programs at Iowa State University serves as a focal point for the activities of the bioeconomy initiative. In the past year, the Office has coordinated a growing number of learning, discovery, and engagement efforts in biorenewable resources. It manages a newly instituted Biorenewable Resources and Technology graduate program and assists affiliated academic departments and research units in preparing multi-disciplinary grant applications related to biorenewable resources. It also helps faculty identify industrial partners for their research programs.


Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center
The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with business, government, non-government organizations and other sectors to promote environmental protection through pollution prevention. PPRC’s web site contains reports and fact sheets on environmentally preferable alternatives for many industry sectors, a database of pollution prevention research projects, and contact information for related businesses and organizations. PPRC's newsletter, Pollution Prevention Northwest, is also available at the site.
